The Local History Group was one of the earliest groups formed in the 1990’s and currently has 95 members.
We hold 7 meetings a year from October through to April on the second Tuesday morning of the month.
Meetings are held in the downstairs room at Barn Hill Methodist Church with refreshments from 10am (members are encouraged to bring their own cups) and a speaker at 10.30am. We usually have between 60-70 attendees at each meeting. Recent talks have included Harringworth Viaduct, Brief Encounters – interesting visitors to the town, and Stamford’s Almshouses. Details of the next sessions programme is forwarded to members in August prior to our first meeting in October. Details of our next meeting are shown below.
During the summer months we arrange 3 visits to places of local historical interest. The photo to the left shows Group members enjoying a very interesting tour of Boughton House near Kettering in July 2024 despite the inclement weather. Visits for summer 2025 are shown on the 'Events' page.
We welcome new members, anyone interested in joining the group please email the Group Leader Penny Rowley as shown above.
