Let’s get one thing straight – This is not a Train Spotters Group! And no, we are not on the edge of the Spectrum as I heard some one describe a railway enthusiast in the hairdressers one day. “There they were standing on the edge of the platform looking for engines. They must be on the edge of the Spectrum, don’t you think?” she said to my hairdresser. It was all I could do to keep a straight face. I wanted to laugh out loud.

If you want to know about social history, architecture, art, famous engineering designers, and wonderful trains which went on journeys where you dined in a special dining car on the train, then come and join my Railway Group. We have lots of fun and some fascinating talks. If you feel energetic I can do some walks along old railway tracks, of which there are plenty in the area.

Sometimes we go on visits to preserved railways and old railway stations, Rippingale being one of them. “Where is that?” you ask. Come and join the Railway group and find out. Rachel Roffe
