We are a small friendly group, walking around 5 miles every 2nd and 4th Thursday.
Taken in conjunction with the Stamford Walking Group (Fridays) this means we are sure of a walk almost every week.
We are keen to recruit more members, and if you are new to the area this is a very good way to get to know the countryside and the nicest walking routes – not to mention making new friends.
We meet at the starting point for a 10.00am start – the walks generally take about 2 hours, with a short stop for a drink and a pause. It is usually possible to get a lift to the starting point if you don’t drive.
Once you are familiar with the area we ask members to offer to lead a walk, with support, checking the route and accessibility of the walk – for instance is it too wet for the time of year? How long will it take? What are the interesting/ memorable sights en route.
There are lots of suggestions for good walks in local magazines and booklets from Walkers Bookshop. More resources can be found on the Internet – for Rutland see www.discover-rutland.co.uk and for Lincolnshire walks see www.lincolnshire.gov.uk and search for “walks”.
We send out a reminder before every walk, and there is a list of the planned walks for the season ahead which is made available – any changes to the list are flagged up in the regular reminder email, and an updated copy of the list is attached. Printed copies can be sent to anyone without easy access to a computer.
